Pregnancy Journey: Week 23

Week 23

So this may be a surprise to you, if you didn’t read my last post, lol. I guess it’s a little late in the game to be starting a pregnancy journal, but here I am. I started writing a little bit offline during the first few weeks of my pregnancy, but I didn’t keep it up.  First trimester was literally a blur.

I like following the bump for week to week updates on the changes going on with me and baby.  This week, baby’s as big as a grapefruit.  Grapefruits are pretty big, no?  Baby is also growing nipples this week.  Strange, right?   Now I have the picture in my head of a grapefruit with nipples.

Winter Storms and Frozen Fingers

This was the 2nd week of my last quarter of classes at Simon.  The mild winter weather has exited, and the blizzards have arrived.  Walking to class this week hurt my fingers.  29 years of dealing with freezing winters, and yet I still leave the house without gloves.  You know who did haves gloves on this week though?  Bella did.  Raising a child has shown me how careless I can be about my well-being, but so hyper-aware of my child’s.  I guess that’s being a mom?

LOL, Sleep

Saturday, I took a 3 hour nap.  Bella’s been waking up every night this week.  I don’t know what the hell is going on.  2 nights she woke up from a dry cough.  2 nights she woke up from a bad dream.  1 night, she came in my room because she wanted to sleep with me.  It has completely thrown off my sleep this week.  I couldn’t get back to sleep one night, and just went ahead and woke up at 4:30 a.m. It just made me think, wow, I’m going to be trying to manage 2 small humans in a couple of months. WHAT IS SLEEP? WHAT IS SLEEP?!

Attempted to Party

I missed my friend’s bday party last year, and really wanted to stop by this year! My plan was to go to the party early, and be home by midnight. Well, now I remember why I never go to parties early. If the party starts at 10, it doesn’t REALLY start until midnight. So, I was happy to see my friend, hang out with my cousin, and show my face at least, but I pretty much was heading out, when the party was just starting. Such a mom. Husband wasn’t happy with my high heel boots that I wore, because you know, pregnant women are supposedly restricted to flats. But overall, I had a fun night!

(Un)Fit Mama

I wish that I could get a better grip on my diet and exercise.  I WAS going to go to the gym today, but there’s a winter storm warning this weekend, and everyone’s been advised to stay off of the roads for unnecessary travel. At this point in my pregnancy, and at my current weight, I think the travel may have been worth the risk. I could work out at home, but honestly it’s just not my thing, plus someone’s usually occupying the living room.  I envy those of you have work out at home regularly. I only worked out 2 days this week, and it’s been my goal to work out at least 3-4 times per week.  Fitting in the workouts has been tough, but I refuse to drop them altogether.  It’s good for me, and staying fit will help me with my delivery.

Eating Cake and Feeling Fat

Hubby and I went grocery shopping this morning since we’re going to be snowed in for a couple of days. I had picked up a banana bread loaf, but (regretfully) decided to put it back.  I’ve been on a sweets binge since Bella’s birthday party last week. My husband called me from the store to ask if he should get a quarter sheet or a half sheet for the party, and I informed him that big mama right here needed a half sheet. Leftovers please!

After eating my fair portion of the cake, I gave the rest of it away to people so they could get fat, instead of me. Next day Bella comes home from school with leftover birthday cupcakes to sabotage my efforts. And yeah, pregnancy brain is kicking in.  I left my lunch on the kitchen counter 2 days in a row this, which means I OBVIOUSLY HAD TO buy the greasy food from the cafeteria at work. I’m eating stuff that I don’t even like.  I mean seriously, I ordered a chicken finger sub on Friday.  I DON’T EVEN LIKE CHICKEN FINGERS LIKE THAT! So, this week in health and fitness doesn’t count. Okay?

Body Keeps Stretching and Peeing

My body hurts. My hips hurt when I sneeze. IT HURTS WHEN I SNEEZE!

I have pain on the sides of my abdomen, and some lower back pain. To be dramatic, I constantly ask my husband to help me up from the couch. I feel like an old lady. You know when I don’t need help from the couch? When I’m running to the bathroom every 10-15 minutes. Granted, I’ve never had the strongest bladder, but now I’m just a urinating machine. I could drink less, but drinking water and randomly eating salads and fruits is the only thing keeping me from feeling like a complete piggy.

So week 23:

  • sleep deprived

  • me trying to be healthy but failing miserably

  • partied! (not really)

  • me peeing all day long

  • back aches, and round ligament pain

  • my grapefruit, nipple-having baby is moving and grooving

  • my firstborn is 4!

How was your week?!
