Thousand Islands: A NY Paradise

For my anniversary, we took a couple’s trip to the Thousand Islands. I’m not the most travelled person, but Thousand Islands has to be one of the most scenic places that I’ve ever visited. Just less than a 3 hour drive from home exists this beautiful NY paradise, an archipelago in the St Lawrence River – literally more than 1000 islands. The views are almost unreal, and it seriously is so perfect for a romantic little getaway.

Johannesburg: Getting to Know Nelson Mandela

Visiting the Apartheid Museum was on the South Africa itinerary, but aside from learning about Apartheid in a Global History course in high school, I cannot say that I had a deep understanding of the history of apartheid and its lasting effects, nor a full appreciation of Nelson Mandela’s impact. Visiting other countries has a way of exposing the ethnocentrism we love to deny.

This time around, my husband and I went on a Memorial Day weekend excursion, and drove to Pittsburgh for my 5th visit. First Time in L.A. - My Current Top 3

So, I was surprised by the weather.  The first couple of days, it was too cold and foggy to go to the water.  Was it fog, or was it smog? In any case, we finally got a chance to make it to the pier when it warmed up  and we could see the sun.  The beach and the pier were the most relaxing parts of my trip.  I skipped the water because it wasn't warm enough for my preference, but I did have tacos at one of the shacks on the beach - because again, sour cream and guacamole

The Longest Layover: Less Than 24 Hours in Dubai

My husband and the tour guide only communicated in my husband’s language.  I remember my mother being nervous for my daughter and I to leave the country with my husband, but I assured her he would bring us back.  She had watched Not Without My Daughter a few times too many. At that moment though, my eyebrow did raise a little. But hey, here I am, alive to tell it.
